A great way to continue or commence direct participation
in the game and, who knows, may result in you officiating at international
level.
To umpire in Western Australia's premier cricket
competition, the WACA District Competition (senior and junior),
a high level of knowledge and competency is expected. Prospective
umpires are required to enroll in Cricket Australia's Umpiring
Accreditation Scheme Level 2 and pass an assessment paper on the
Laws of Cricket.

2005 - 2006 Umpiring Awards
The Peter Mc Connell Award:
Stuart Bore
This award is awarded by the UAB to the most promising non First Class Umpire, to an Umpire showing the promise and ability to become a First Class Umpire.

Umpiring awards are awarded to the best umpire in each grade from the Captains umpire's reports. An umpire must stand in more that 50% of the matches in that grade.

The Umpire Appointment Board (UAB)
The UAB, is a sub-committee of Cricket Council, and is responsible for Umpire appointments. The UAB comprises five members: four appointed by the Cricket Council plus the WACA Umpiring Manager.
The UAB ranks the umpires before the commencement of the season and then meets regularly throughout the season to review performances. The review is based on observations at matches and the Captains' Reports on umpires completed after each match. The Umpiring Manager arranges individual appointments to the district competition and other WACA matches.
The Umpires Appointment Board shall consist of five (5) members, these being:
- Four members elected by the Cricket Council every two years. For the 2003-04 season, two shall be elected for a one-year term and two for a two-year term.
- The WACA Umpiring Manager
- Chairman elected from the Umpires Appointment Board
The Board shall be appointed annually during the Annual General Meeting of the Cricket Council
Should any member cease to serve on the Board the Cricket Council shall appoint a replacement. If the Chairman of the Board is unable to attend a meeting of the Board he shall appoint one of the ordinary members to be acting Chairman of the Board.
A quorum shall consist of two members and the WACA Umpiring Manager.
The Board shall exercise the following functions:
- Carry out grading of all umpires and prospective umpires.
- Appoint umpires for matches as directed by the Association.
- Such other matters or questions relating to umpiring as may be referred to the Board by the Cricket Council or Western Australian Cricket Umpires Association.
- The Board shall furnish a report of all business transacted by it to each meeting of the Cricket Council.
